A recently-published study from Pew Research indicates that social media networking among adults using the internet is on the rise, up from 67% in 2012 to 72% in 2013. Compare that to the fledgling 8% of adults who used social media half a decade ago, and you have a marketing opportunity that continues to grow into older internet users – with typically higher incomes.
This particular study, published on Monday, August 5, focused on overall social media usage by internet users, and also looked at how usage of Twitter has gained momentum in the last three years:
As the study indicates, “Six out of ten internet users ages 50-64 are social networking site users, as are 43% of those ages 65 and older.”
